Calling Ex-Cairnhill Players!!

Dear all,

It has been quite sometimes since the blog was updated.

There are some comments on the tag board which are quite negative, but we accept that.
Most of the players have joined other teams, while some have stop playing completely.

After some discussion with former Cairnhill FC Vice-Captain, Gervais, we have decided to rebuild Cairnhill FC again. However this time round, we are looking for friendly games only, at least for the next one year.

Thus, I am hoping to recruit back some of the former Cairnhill FC players to the team, as well as recruiting some new committed new players. For former players, you can contact me directly. For new players, maybe you would like to leave your email at the tag board or email to cairnhillfc@gmail.com and we will get back to you.

This is our Match Report for the Game against Black Scorpions FC.
(PUB Pitch, 11:00am)
Score : Cairnhill FC 1-1 Black Scorpions

We were up against our ol' Frens,Black Scorpions,again and similiar to our previous meeting,the
match was very entertaining and a really tight affair. We were forced to play with 9men at the start
of the game, before we were swiftly joined by our 2 forwards, Berm and Jason to make it an
eleven-man-flat team. Considering the size of the PUB pitch, this proved to be an extremely
difficult test of our fitness and determination as we found ourselves being stretched wide by the
BSFC wingers. nonetheless,we quickly settled into our pass-and-move style of play and within a
quarter of an hour, found ourselves getting a breakthrough. Through an inspired forward drive by our
strikers, we won us a Corner and our Dead-ball specialist Darryl ran all the way from his side of
the field to take it. He sent the ball perfectly near the 6 yard box and all our centre back Kiran
had to do was head a floating ball over the keeper's outstretched hands and into the back of the net.
Score:1-0
However, the Scorpions replied almost immediately with an equaliser. From a freekick, the ball
evaded our keeper Shuen who came out to collect it,and it was bundled easily into the open goal by a
BSFC Forward.
Score:1-1
The Rest of the match saw both teams giving everything they had,trying to win the 3 points,but both
sides were equally matched. Cairnhill didnt have the luxury of substituting any of our players like
our opponents did, but we managed to hold on to the draw, with each and every player overcoming
their exhaustion and cramping legs, determined to come away with at least a point.

FINAL SCORE:
Cairnhill 1-1 Black Scorpions

Well played match, Scoprions.. You guys are a really sporting team, and the match was played with
utmost sportsmanship and fairness.. We've played 4 matches in 2 seasons alr against each other and
this match was Just as enjoyable as the previous games. may our paths cross again in the future!!

Despite the disappointing result, Cairnhill FC played very well today. Short of players, playing in
the merciless midday heat and on the back of a demoralising 6-0 defeat, we still played our hearts
out and kept the never-say-die attitude til the final whistle.. Special mention must go to Darryl
today, who was required to play 3 different positions today to cover our manpower shortage, and who
also provided and assisted in some of our most potent attacks. We wore black bands on our arms in
remembrance of Darryl's cousin who has passed on last wk. We played the match for her and im sure
she would've been proud.

Now, on to our final 2 matches against PMSFC.. Let's go Cairnhill!!!

Last Sunday, we guys had a friendly game at CHIJ Katong Primary. But due to is a last minute arrangement, many was unable to turn up. Only the following players came:

1) Jason Lee
2) Syahrul
3) Clarence
4) Darryl
5) Jonathan
6) Perry

With the 6 of us, 5 of our friends (Potential new player??) joined us for this friendly to make it 11. But by half - time, we are down to 10 because Clarence got some other appointment and got to leave early. Nevertheless, we finish the game, losting 3 - 1 with Syahrul scoring for us from a free - kick (Syahrul, remember to bring your scoring boots for this sunday game and start scoring in the league!).

Let look forward to the upcoming game against PMS FC!!!

Team Kickabout

The phoenixes enjoyed a well-deserved break from our hectic league schedule by participating in a Team Kickabout session at Nanyang Polytechnic on Friday. We had a decent turnout of players and a thoroughly enjoyable and light-hearted 5-on-5 game,which lasted an hour and a half (no break in between!) The 2 teams consisted of:

Kiran
Berm
Navin
Josiah

Berm,recovering from his injury,still showed signs of his superior first touch and thumping shots and we can't wait til he's fit enough to make a return to the team. The other 2 new faces were Navin and Josiah,friends of Kiran, had a good time and fit in easily with the team. Possible future prospects? maybe so!

The match ended with a score of.......... who can remember the score actually?? we were all having a good time playing,and i must say, the pass-and-move and close control of the players were very encouraging signs for the games to come. It was all in all a very good team bonding session and at the same time,a stamina builder. Both sides had equally brilliant plays and scored countless Astounding goals. We had tonnes of laughs,and lots of fun. We hope to have a bigger turn out next time, so we can all enjoy as a team, and as a family.

Now we shift our focus to next week's match against the rapidly improving PMS FC. Let's go, Cairnhill!

Guys, these are the Free-to-Play fields we can use for our trainings, on Sundays when we don't have match or Friendlies, or on the weekdays. If we are to really improve and take this team further, we will need the commitment and support of everyone. This Cairnhill team has so much potential! In due course,we may be holding further talks in how to take this team to the next level. But thats all in good time. For now, let's see out this season in style!

1st Half:
Cairnhill kicked started its season come-back in roaring fashion as we held league leaders One-Touchables to a 0-0 draw at MJC. the past few weeks have been strenous on the team as the holiday period saw most of our players unable to make it for games.this meant that we had to field vastly understrength sides,and with minimal substitutions. this time, determined to end our terrible run of games, a full squad CFC turned up on sunday morning. we needed to set our season back on track, and facing the league leaders seemed a daunting task. but each and every single man in blue played their heart out. The first half saw us settling very slowly into the game, and TOT getting majority of possesion and the chances. we were missing our top strikers gervais and salem, but Clarence and 'Santia' really stepped up to the plate, chasing and pressuring every ball and making the decisive runs to keep the TOT defenders on their toes. Unfortunately most of the action was happening on our half of the field and if not for the intervention of an on-fire Iskandar, we would have found ourselves trailing behind early on. "medic" pulled off some fantastic saves, denying the league top scorer arriola from adding to his tally.however to everyone watching from the sidelines, you could see glimpses of the old Cairnhill, the one touch passing, the one-twos and the strings of passes,even out of the tightest spots. the halftime break came soon after that,and both teams went into the shade for a well deserved break.

2nd Half:
the second half started much much better than the first. Gaffer Jason rang in the changes, beefing up the midfield,with the addition of faiz,ayyub,ming and jage.he also restored the centreback partnership of kiran and darryl to provide some stability to the creaky defence. this time around, from kick off, cairnhill really put the pedal to the metal, playing some of the best football we've played in weeks.in our relaxed, "veteran"-style of play we began to move the ball around much more on the ground, making the TOT players chase us and close us down. we created a few glorious chances that were just begging to be put away,but luck deserted us on the final touch. faiz saw his simple tap in go floating over the bar and azmi missed a free header from a corner. it was safe to say we grabbed back a lions share of possesion in the 2nd half,but the difference was that this time ard, we managed to keep the ball. we had a few more scares as TOT made a few advances,including arriola's effort that clanged off the post, but other than that, we were pretty much in control. the centre midfield was winning the battle and the strikers and wingers were giving the TOT defenders a miserable time to mark. we pushed forward all the way to the end, in search of the goal to kill off the match, but it never came,and the referee blew the whistle,the match ending goalless.

Final Score:
Cairnhill 0-0 One Touchables

TOT, well played match. your constant danger upfront is proof enough why you guys are top of the table now..it was a well played match,with minimal unsportsmanship from both sides. til we meet again..

Well done Phoenixes. This is the Cairnhill that we all know and have come to love.we're really beginning to play our own style of football, and once again, we have every man in blue playing for each other.everyone put in a 110% performance, but the Man of the match goes to Birthday boy Iskandar,who really kept us in the match with a commanding display between the sticks and some fine saves! Let's pick up the pace CFC! we're just getting our engine starting up again and firing on all cylinders.let's keep this up for the remainder of the season,and who knows wad may come from that.Keep the faith guys. there's just 3 words left to be said.. "We Are Back!"

This is our Match Report for the Game against Black Scorpions FC.

1st Half:
The game ended with a full strength
Cairnhill squaring up against a 10 man
Scorpion team, and frankly, the condition of
the field after the downpour was atrocious!
Gervais was a surprise inclusion at the
Centre Back position as Faiz had to stand in
as Keeper,while we waited for the arrival of
Shah. But from kick off, CFC started
marauding forward immediately and barely
10 mins into the match, we found ourselves
a goal up. After our attacker was hacked to
the ground outside the box, our midfield
general ayyub sent in a freekick THROUGH
the BSFC wall and into the back of the net,
giving the keeper No Chance. it was a
tremendously and expertly taken freekick!
Score: 1-0
However, this goal seemed to wake up the
sleeping giants that were the Black
Scorpions, as they came Surging back into
the game,with some aplomb! They came
attacking in droves, and even defended
together as a WHOLE team. 10 mins from
half time, they were duly rewarded as their
striker placed a well-taken sidefoot just past
the flailing keeper to level the score.
Score: 1-1
Half time came shortly after, with BSFC
really taking the fight to us.

2nd Half:
The second half began pretty much how the
first left off, and you would be forgiven to
think the Scorpions were playing with a full-
strength squad. Cairnhill really didnt seem
to be clicking today..we really failed to
assert our dominance on the game, even
with the talents of our substitutes, like
Rifai'e,Zex,Hair and Ming..No excuses can
be made about how the ground was too
muddy and slippery, the Phoenixes just
never picked up the pace. And then, the
turning point of the match. The BSFC centre
mid was dispossesed of the ball by
the "other" Shaik, and he went flying in with
a dangerous studs up challenge on Faiz. This
caused some tension as Frustrated players
came charging in to defend their team-
mates, and threats started being thrown
about. The ref proceeded to show the Red
Card to the BSFC player and things started
to cool down abit. This is when CFC stepped
it up a notch. Seizing our 2-Man advantage,
we began to press forward in numbers,in
search of the lead. We started making use
of the space left by the opponent's depleted
squad and soon enough the game started to
turn our way.The ball fell to Ayyub again,
who showed some fancy footwork,taking the
ball past a couple of defenders before
unleashing a shot that the keeper couldn't
reach.
Score: 2-1
Minutes later, Jonathan did an almost carbon
copy of yub's goal,drilling the ball low past
the mass of defenders and into the bottom
corner.
Score: 3-1
Later on, a well worked corner from Ayyub
almost resulted in our 4th. he sent a chip
into the path of an onrushing Jonathan who
sprang up to half-volley the ball at the goal.
The ball hit the underside of the crossbar
and crossed the line, but it bounced back up
and was cleared by the BSFC defender. Not
being able to see this, the ref blew for play
on, denying us another goal. But this was
enough to seal the game, and it soon
ended,with us 'stealing' all 3 points.

FINAL SCORE:
Cairnhill 3-1 Black Scorpions

BSFC, playing with 10 men is hard enough,
let alone 9. but somehow you guys really
came through, giving us a hard fight. The
grit and determination displayed was
phenomenal. We've alr played a number of
matches together, so let's see how our next
one turns out. Cheers!

Cairnhill, today's lesson that we learnt is
Composure. Today's game was definitely
one of our worst performances so far,
struggling against a 10 man team. But
everyone in the squad knows that we can
achieve far more than this. Today is just
one of those days, with things not going too
well. and we have to watch our temper and
keep things professional. However, i must
comment on the Team-spirit and Comradery
that we've somehow developed together.
When one of our team-mates has been
unfairly challenged or threatened,the rest
can be seen rushing to his aid, and
sometimes even defending him to the point
of picking a fight with the offender. this is
seen also among the Newer players too,like
Jonathan for example, and this display of
being protective over your team-mate is
truly inspiring. Let's take things from here
guys,and keep moving upwards. Farewell to
Gervais,as he is called up to serve our
nation. also, to all our Muslim frens, Happy
Fasting! we're here to support you! haha!

This is our Match Report for the Game against Admirals FC.
(Dunearn Sec, 1:00pm)
Score : Cairnhill FC 0-1 Admirals

1st Half:
Cairnhill fell to its first defeat of the season
to a young and exuberant Admirals side at
Dunearn Sec. The match started off with
both teams going straight for the jugular,
hungry for the breakthrough. Our defence
line quickly found it hard to cope with the
speedy forwards, who were springing our
offside traps and running us pretty ragged.
but in true CFC spirit, the entire team came
back to cover each other and try to take the
pressure off our back four, before surging
up in numbers to string a number of attacks
together. but Admirals came out with the
best chance of the first half. their striker
was put through on goal with a slide rule
pass from their midfield and shaik had to
track back all the way to stop him.
unfortunately, he did so by sending him
crashing down to the ground, and even
worse, it was in the Penalty Box. PENALTY!
the striker stepped up to take the spot-kick,
but our cool-as-ice custodian Iskandar
guessed the right direction and saved the
shot. What a brilliant save, and a definite
morale booster! taking this as a sign from
the heavens, cairnhill poured forward with
wave after wave of attacks, but the referee
blew the whistle for half time.

2nd Half:
The second half brought about the addition
of Jage to the Defensive Midfield Position, so
the center defence could sit back abit
further in our half. The tactic seemed to be
working as the determined Admirals
attackers could only manage shots from
outside the box. But this still required
Iskandar to pull off a couple of breath-
taking saves to keep the score level. our
forwards were trying their very best to pull
the Phoenixes ahead, but nothing seemed to
be able to penetrate the opponents resilient
backline. Both teams were desperate to
take the lead, and sadly for us, it was AFC
who did just that. As they say, what goes
around comes around.. Just like how
Cairnhill had pulled a late goal against
Beercelona last week to seal all 3 points,
this time, we found ourselves on the
receiving end as the Admirals Forward sent
an unstoppable "torres-like" shot into the
bottom right corner of the goal. Not even
Iskandar, who had been having a wonderful
game throughout, could do anything to keep
the shot out. it was a well taken goal, and
AFC celebrated hard, possibly relieved that
they had finally managed to crack our
stubborn and steady backline after so much
unrelenting pressure.
Score: 0-1
The rest of the match consisted of Cairnhill
throwing every man forward, in search of
the equaliser and at least a point to take
home, but this was not to be, as the game
came to an end, frustratingly shortly
afterward.

FINAL SCORE:
Cairnhill 0-1 Admirals FC

Good game to the young ones of AFC. you
guys truly brought the game to us and there
is definitely so much potential within your
ranks. Til we meet again!!

Two words Cairnhill.. HEADS UP! We lost to
the better team this time. It's a bitter pill to
swallow, yes, but let's look at this as a
Harsh Lesson.
Number 1: Complacency Kills! We must
never lose the hunger for success, the
hunger for victory. We must never
underestimate ANY opponent. Yes, we have
a stronger and better team than before, but
we must never think that we can't improve
anymore.
Number 2: As long as we have the
determination and keep working together as
one single, unwavering unit, there's really
nothing we can't achieve. Unfortunately for
this match, our drive came in short bursts,
scattered few and far between. and the only
time we really started firing on all cylinders
was when we conceded. But by then it was
too late.
But no worries guys. A defeat can be a good
thing. Only when we have tasted defeat can
we truly savour the triumph of success. We
become hungrier and more desperate for
victory. let's pick ourselves up, dust
ourselves off and get ourselves back on
track. Heads Up Cairnhill... Espzen ain't
seen nothing yet!

This is our Match Report for the Game against FC Beercelona.

1st Half:
CFC stepped out onto the field of MJC in the
scorching mid-day heat. A 1pm kick-off
seemed absolutely inhumane as we watched
the heat radiating off the artificial turf. What
made matters worse was the sight of our
opponents, beercelona, who looked like they
would most likely make us go running
around the pitch like headless chickens
chasing the ball as they played their veteran-
style passing game.. However, Cairnhill had
just one aim in mind... all 3 points. As the
whistle rang around the school compound,
we were determined to get the game under
control and settle down quickly. This proved
to be very difficult though, as the heat was
baking us all alive. To make matters worse,
FCB's midfield was proving hard to crack
and their attackers were sniffing out each
and every single opportunity put pressure
on our stand-in keeper Clarence. We took
some time to settle, but eventually, we did
and began playing our normal pass-and-
move style. Chances came few and far
between in the first half, but Clarence was
called into action to make some exceptional
saves to keep us level. Every single Phoenix
out there was giving their all, desperate to
find the breakthrough. But it was not to be
as the ref called for the break soon after,
and we all retreated to the shelter to escape
the merciless sun.

2nd Half:
The second half brought about the
introduction of Hair to Centreback, Jage and
Sathya on the wings and Zex in
attack,looking to switch up our sytle and get
the winner. This time around,we managed to
assert more dominance on the game and
really took the game to FCB. Our wingers
were working overtime on the flanks, and
our strikers were pressuring the opponents
backline with every advance. However, our
team's shared cause to get the winning goal
was spreading all the way back to our own
defense, as our defensive mid,our fullbacks
and even both our centrebacks were taking
turns to surge forward to provide more
attacking options. the sight of the entire
team pushing themselves and each other to
get a victory was truly inspirational! and
then, the moment of magic. with around 5
minutes to the end, we won a corner and
the ball was sent into the mass of bodies in
the penalty box. our attackers pounced on
the ball trying to turn it in,but the FCB
defenders managed to get in the way. even
zex saw his shot clang off the post, and the
defender headed the ball out to
safety.however, Perry came swooping in
and smashed the rebound past everyone
and into the back of the net. it was sheer
jubilation as the team came together to
celebrate the magnificent goal, and we let
out a collective sigh of relief.
Score: 1-0
From here,all
we had to do was to hold out til the final
whistle..our backline held strong, and the ref
blew the whistle for the end of the
match,with CFC managing to secure all 3
points.

FINAL SCORE:
Cairnhill 1-0 Beercelona

Beercelona,you guys gave us the toughest
fight so far that we've had this season. it
was a really entertaining contest til the very
end.until we meet again later on in the
season!

It was a great show of team spirit and
determination by everyone, Cairnhill.. the
never-say-die attitude of the whole team
really showed and all the hard work we put
paid off in the end. i hope that our little
episode at half time is behind us now, and
we all understand and respect each other's
point of view.these experiences can only
help us to grow stronger as a team and we
should all move forwards from this.. let's
keep at it guys, we can pull through as a
team,as a family. Have a good week off
guys, so we can be more rested for our next

This is our Match Report for the Game against AC United FC.

1st Half:
Cairnhill went into the match knowing fully
well the need to extend our good run of
form, and to keep up our momentum to give
a good start to the Season. We were paired
up against a real potential stumbling block in
the form of AC United, who had played in
higher divisions of ESPzen. However, we
went into this match undeterred and focused
on our goal. The manager even took the
risk of resting some of our more
experienced players such as Lawrence and
Ayuub. From the whistle, CFC went
immediately into attack mode. As we have
done countless times before, we managed
to settle down and start playing our game,
with strings of passes and the cross-field
sprays. ACU actually started the match with
9 men, but strangely enough, we only
started asserting our dominance when they
had all 11 on the field. Before long, we
found ourselves a goal up, with a Beauty of
an opener! It all started with our left back
Taufiq, who audaciously Ole'd his marker,
and passed the ball on to the Midfield.After a
string of passes involving Syahrul, Jon and
Jage, the ball fell back to Jonathan who
gave a DELIGHTFUL through ball past the
defence line to Gervais, who didnt hesitate
in lobbing the ball over the keeper into the
back of the net.
Score: 1-0
However, try as we might to settle down and
take the game under control,we began to
slip.The ACU striker found himself almost
through on goal when he skipped past our
CB with the ball, but Kiran came barging
back after him and somewhat needlessly
sent him crashing down to the turf. The
freekick was awarded, and disaster was
quick to follow. As the opponent sent in a
simple ball into the danger area, our keeper
accidentally misjudged the ball and could
only watch it bounce mercilessly into the
net.It was agonising to watch our lead get
wasted in such a manner.
Score: 1-1
The first half ended surprisingly quickly and
we went into the break,clearly with a lot of
stratergizing and reshuffling to do.

2nd Half:
The second half brought about the
introduction of a new keeper, Syah, along
with Lawrence at Centre Back, Ayuub in the
Centre Mid,Ming on the Right and Sathya on
the Left. Former EA-Star Zex was brought in
as well to bolster our attack. We went into
the match seeking to retrieve our
dominance, but found ourselves on the back
foot for long stretches of time. we seemed
to be absorbing all the ACU pressure,
soaking more and more in,and only being
able to string a few counter-attacks in reply.
It was getting frustrating as the ref just
wasnt giving ANYTHING our way and we
were fighting harder and harder to no avail.
And then, up stepped Ayuub to the rescue.
When our player was hacked down some
distance from the penalty box, Ayuub sent
in an Inch-Perfect shot into practically the
Top-Left corner that eluded the keeper, and
restored our lead. it was a goal oozing with
class!
Score: 2-1
Our celebrations were shortlived however.
In similar fashion from the first half,ACU
managed to doggedly claw their way back
into the match, and it happened within
minutes of the Final Whistle. From another
Freekick, their Freekick-Specialist Sent in
another looping shot at the keeper. Initially
we all assumed it was floating out, but the
ball began to dip and even the back-tracking
and flailing Syah could do nothing to keep
the ball from slipping under the bar.
Score: 2-2
The goal, and the fact that it was scored so
close to the end of the match, sent us
reeling and we could now only rue the
missed opportunities and squandered
chances. The Ref blew the final whistle a few
minutes later, and the draw really seemed
like a defeat for us, having surrendered the
lead twice.

FINAL SCORE:
Cairnhill 2-2 AC United

Today's Man-Of-The-Match goes to non-
other than Mr Rubbit, Syahrul! He was
required to play the entire match,and did so
with tonnes of conviction, even after injuring
himself in the 2nd half. His influence in the
midfield and his commanding performance
were really inspirational. most may not
realise it, but the majority of our attacks
were started by Syahrul and his Centre-
Mids. Good game, Asst-Manager! and GOOD

In Memory of a Dear Friend

DARRYL ER ZE HAO

30th March 1988-25th July 2008

We are gathered here today, dearly beloved, to pay respects and homage to our friend, our team-mate, our brother. Darryl Er Ze Hao (aka Pretty Boy) played his last match on sunday before he was taken away from us by Mindef Almighty to serve his country. We already miss him sorely. He was a great man. We will all remember him fondly.

The team came to tears on the last day Darryl drew breath as a Cairnhill Player (for 2 wks at least). Striker and Good Friend, Gervais held back his sorrow as he said "Ze Hao meant a lot to this team. It is so cruel he had to be taken away from us in such a drastic manner. If only we could turn back the hands of time. WHY MUST THE GOOD GET ENLISTED SO YOUNG?"

Gaffer Jason was a forlon figure after the final whistle. "We must be strong, together as a team. We have lost an excellent player. But we must do his memory justice. We must do what Darryl would have wanted us to do. And that is to be the best we can be. "

Full-Back Shaik tried boosting his team-mates' morales. "At least he's in a better place now", looking skywards."In Tekong."

Captain Kiran could not be reached for comments as he left the Cantonment Field heartbroken as the news was released.

Fittingly, the team will partake in a respectful one minute of silence to commemorate a fallen comrade, a warrior who had lost the battle of being a free man. But the Phoenixes are set to pull through together, desperate to win the next few games in his honour.

We will always remember you, Darryl. Rest in Pieces!

This is our Match Report for the Game against Poseur United FC.

1st Half:
Coming off a convincing 6-1 victory from
last week's friendly match, Cairnhill went
into the first match of the season with all the
confidence and determination to have a
perfect start to our campaign. We were
squaring off against Poseur United who
came across as a strong and experienced
team. From the whistle, CFC began applying
heaps of pressure high up the field, our
attackers chasing after every ball and
closing down the opponents very quickly.
However, both teams were matching each
other move for move, as we both simply
could not break the dead-lock for the
majority of the first half. CFC then decided
to change our gameplay, soaking in the
pressure from the PUFC attack, and then
launching wave after wave of counter-
attacks. This tactic proved a
masterstroke,as we found ourselves 1-0 up
sometime after the half hour mark. The ball
was collected from the midfield and hauled
up into the PUFC penalty box, which Gervais
duly chased down. His control on the chest
brought him past the last man, and he
whipped in a cross that eluded the keeper,
and Salem was on hand to side foot the ball
into goal. Brilliant! The partnership between
our two strikers seems to be reaping more
and more dividends!

Shortly after that the referee blew the half
time whistle and we retreated into the
shade,one goal up.

2nd Half:
The gaffer rang in some changes, having
Jage slotting in as a full-out Defensive
Midfielder, allowing our defence line to play
deeper. Darryl came in as Right Mid,Perry
as Left Mid and Sathya as Left Back, to give
the team more fresh legs. The second half
began as smoothly as the first ended, and
we resumed our pass and move style, with
Midfield General Ayuub pulling the strings in
the centre of the park. Our determination to
find the 2nd and killer goal was rewarded on
the hour mark. The Poseur United
Centreback sent a backward header to the
keeper,but the nippy Gervais latched onto
the poor pass and left the advancing keeper
with no chance.

However, CFC never really took our foot off
the pedal and we surged forward in search
of the third. This time, it was the
combination of the Kay Brothers that helped
further extend our lead. Younger Brother
Ming brought the ball down the left flank and
cut into the penalty box, before laying off
the ball for Ayuub to tap into the back of the
net, in a very "Winning Eleven" fashion.
Score:3-0
PUFC did cause some scares including one
freekick that went just over the crossbar,
but we managed to keep our cleansheet and
the final whistle blew shortly after, with CFC
claiming 3 points and 3 goals!

FINAL SCORE:
Cairnhill 3-0 Poseur United

We must mention that Poseur gave us a
tough fight til the end of the match, and they
were a really sporting and friendly team.

Cairnhill! we really kicked off our season to
a roaring start! everyone was giving a 110%
and we were all covering each other very
well. Each and everyone's individual playing
styles really complemented the team's
performance as a whole. But we all must
remember this is just the first part of the
race, the first mile. we must sustain this
pressure, repeat these kind of performances
if we are to be real contenders to the title.

Transfer Dealings

Mega 5-years deal baby!

While fierce rivals have been relatively quiet in the transfer market, Cairnhill FC has been scouring the world for top talents. With the intention of bolstering the already impressive squad and another eye on the future, Manager Lee has been shrewd in bringing in young players with bright prospects.

After being on-loan for half a season, Jage Lim has finally completed his protracted move from GHBD FC to Cairnhill FC. Impressing teammates and fans alike with his pace, boundless stamina and grit, the gaffer was quick to signal his intention of capturing the 19 year old winger on a permanent deal. Being made “the number 1 priority signing of the season” by the manager, it is no big surprise that the New Anford faithful are brimming with joy. The player himself has since spoke of his delight at joining CFC. “It is my pleasure to play week-in, week-out with such magnificent players. They are such talented people and can only help you improve”. The young Singaporean was also quick to point out that the manager, players, backroom staff and fans were immense in helping him settle down. He added “Now I just want to repay the faith that the club has in me, and bring them to greater heights!”

Moving on to greater heights indeed as more fresh faces such as Sathya, Johnathan, Lawrence and Iskander have all put pen to paper. With a smirk on his face, Manager Lee spoke of his new signings in a press conference during the pre-season Bangladesh Tour. “The boys have all made their first bow and have really performed well.” Lee added, “I expect them to play a big role next season as they would have no problem fitting into our squad simply because they are such marvelous players.”

The new season is drawing closer as Poseur United FC awaits the Phoenixes this Sunday. Tickets are almost sold out as fans can’t wait to watch their favorite team grace the pitch once again. Supporters can purchase remaining tickets at SISTIC or on 1900 – 112 – 6868.

Final Match Report of the Season..

Instead of our regular match report, I’ve decided to write up an analysis of the team after playing a great maiden season together. Here it is. This Is Cairnhill…

Zack(GK) – Debuted for CFC in the middle of the season, but proved a valuable asset as goalkeeper and an outfield player as well. Had a very good season as our Custodian, and really made a name for himself with his fine saves and shot-stopping. Very commanding from the back and not afraid to let the whole team, the spectators and even people from 3 blocks away hear his instructions.

Karthik(GK) – Unfortunately was put out for most of the season with a wrist injury against Fireball FC, but other than that, was a hardworking keeper with good reflexes and fighting spirit.

Shaik(RB) – Was played in a totally foreign position as Right back during our 3-3 fight back against Assumption, but he rose to the occasion marvelously and made the position his own. Since then, he has become the first-choice right back, providing excellent cover for his defenders and making some of the best tackles of the season. Not to mention his tireless overlapping to assist in the attacks, and his beauty of a long-range goal against fireball. Had an excellent season and really played his heart out for every match. I’m sure he can only improve from here, and it’s quite an exciting prospect to see how much more he has to offer next season.

Chii Huan(LB) – Our tireless “HUGH LUNG” fullback demonstrated one of the highest work-rate in the team. His determined chasing down of opponents and his countless Goal-line clearances have really helped our season turn out the way it has. Even scored a long range pile-driver of a shot after marauding upfield from the defence.Awesome season, Officer!

Taufiq(LB) – Our speedy Left-back is one of our most consistent players this season. This attacking-minded fullback made tones of brilliant overlaps and charges down the left flank, swinging in pin-point crosses and rifling in unstoppable shots. Let’s not forget his screamer against Assumption when he followed up the opponent’s clearance with a rocket volley. But he never neglects his defensive duties either, shrugging off even the biggest of attackers and stopping countless opponent advances with apparent ease.

Dennis(CB) – The rock in the heart of the backline. His timely interventions and non-stop breaking up of opponents’ plays have proved crucial for the team. Provides the confidence for the rest of the team to push forward as he is always on hand to give cover to the midfield, as well as his fullbacks. He is a great header of the ball and is fearless and tireless in the pursuit to keep clean-sheets for CFC. Became the latest player to add his name to the scorer’s sheet as he sent in a dipping header from a corner against Fireball. It’s great having you in the team Dennis! Keep up the excellent form!

Hair(CB) – Our original centreback, who despite his small frame, packs quite a punch with his tough tackling and good reading of the game. Had a Zero-to-Hero game against One-touchables when he gave away a needless penalty, BUT stepped up to the plate and headed home the winner from a corner to make amends. A very calm and relaxed player who always uses his own actions to remind us to slow down and play to our own style. Was subsequently moved to fullback later on in the season, proving he is a real utility player, who can play anywhere on the field.

Syahrul(CM) – Our very own Player / Assistant Manager who leads by example out on the field. Had a fantastic season as playmaker and has proven to all of us his vision and ability to control the game. He is really someone we can all look up to, as he goes into each game with determination and resilience. Still has not broken his goal-scoring duck just yet, but secondary school PA system speakers all over Singapore are terrified of him. A fantastic leader and a great buddy to all in the team!

Ayuub(CM) – His domination and influence on the game are incomparable. He is our highest scoring Midfielder with 3 goals to his name. His predatory instincts and slide-rule passes make him on of our most feared players, and he was dearly missed in our final match at the Serangoon Stadium. He never fails to inspire his team-mates, and is always the first one to rally the troops and encourage us when we concede or begin to give up. A truly inspirational figure in Cairnhill, and a truly valuable player for us. You had an inspired season, Yuub!Keep up the good work!

Shah(CM) – The anchorman of the team, his vision and reading of the game are second to none. We are all amazed by some of his deft touches, his ability to swivel around opponents with ease and who can forget his debut against Black Scorpions, when he took the ball all the way from his own penalty area, charged forward and after a quick one-two, placed the ball simply into the back of the net to give us a precious win. He has settled into the team seamlessly and it is mainly due to him that we now play our pass and move style which proves so effective. A great asset to Cairnhill.

Manfred(CM) – Our bulldozer, the no-nonsense tackler who strikes fear into the heart of any attacker. His dedication and determination are unquestionable as he always gives his 110% for the team. Has really matured as a player and learned his lesson after the Assumption match. Now he is a through-and-through team player who is always ready to put his body on the line and inspire the team to victory. Scored 2 brilliant goals this season to help our campaign, which proves he is as efficient upfront as he is at the back. Great job Manfred!

Jage(RM) – One of our latest recruits, Jage has excelled in every new performance for Cairnhill, tearing down the Right flank and terrorizing opponents with his speed, his quick turns, and his hard, tireless running. It’s a shame he only joined us late into the season, as I’m sure his presence in the earlier stages would have spelt more success for us! He has integrated into the team very well and is truly a key player to have on any team. Let’s see more from you next season, Jage! Keep it up!

Perry(LM) – No one can question Perry’s commitment on the field as he is absolutely lethal on the flanks. He zips past fullbacks and can cross the ball into the danger zone just as well as he cuts in to take a crack at goal. His improvement has been tremendous the past few games. Though he couldn’t get on the scoresheet for our 6-2 mauling of Fireball, no matter how much he tried, he did get his goal previously against Black Scorpions when he instinctively followed up Ayuub’s attempt and drilling it past the keeper. Perry is a very determined and hardworking player, and all his effort is truly appreciated! Can’t wait to see what you have in store next season!

Darryl(RM) – He was there from the start,when the team was just forming up, and he will always be one of the players we can all count on. He has played practically EVERY position on the field, his versatility is simply marvelous! And no one on the team can match his pin-point accuracy in dead ball situations, as he is one of the highest assists-provider for the team. Darryl, your determination to always play your heart out for the team is inspirational. We know you try your very best every single match and put in your full commitment. You’re also the best team-mate any player could ask for, as you’re always there ready to defend your friends after rough tackles and to encourage us when we’re down. Please don’t lose that about you. In fact, let’s see more Next season!

Rifai’e(RM) – The “other” Shaik! Unfortunately since joining the team, Rifai’e has found himself playing in almost every other position EXCEPT his favoured striking role, but that hasn’t stopped him from giving his all and showing great determination in trying to perform for the team. Although frustrations can sometimes get in the way, he never gives up and plays his heart out for the team. We would love to see more of him next season, so he can show us what he really can do!

Azmi(RM) – Nobody can move and cut players the way our Azmi does. His pace and trickery have really become endeared at CFC. He is the hardest player to catch when he takes off on his fleeting runs down the flank and his shots can pack a HUGE punch. We all remember one of the contenders for Goal of the Season when Azmi cut in from the left flank to send a thumper of a shot from 40yards into the back of the net against Fireball. What a player!

Ming(ST) – A real predator in our attacking line-up. Ming is a real tough player who goes into every challenge with only one thing on his mind:- Win the ball, no other options available. Even if he loses the ball, he is always there to chase down the attacker, win it back, and embark on yet another attacking run. He plays equally well as our Left Winger too, and has established himself as our Second Top-Scorer for the season. Ming’s had a good season, but I’m sure he has so much more to offer. Let’s see what you’ve got, Ming!

Clarence(ST) – One of our veterans, Clarence is a player you really don’t want to mess with. From what we’ve seen, his determination and commitment are unrivaled. He can pull up the entire team’s morale by his inspiring work-rate and his willingness to do anything it takes to benefit the team. He would gladly even slot in at right-back (like the game at Turf-city) and play his heart out in that unfamiliar position, in order to do what’s best for the team. We’re really glad to have a player like Clarence on the team, he is a truly treasured team-mate to all!

Salem(ST) – Our other veteran who always puts in dominating performances up front. He can play as our target man, and holds up the ball very well for us. He really puts his experience to good use, and this benefits us all in the team as we learn from him and can thus improve. Has had a wonderful season with us and scored a classic goal against Black Scorpions, showing that he’s just as deadly at setting up goals as he is at putting them in himself. He puts in solid performances for us regularly and is someone we all can look up to.

Gervais(ST) – Our season’s TOP SCORER! What more can we say about our boy? Every new game seems to bring us a new and improved Gervais. He is constantly challenging himself to be better with each game and his improvement throughout the course of the season is there for everyone to see. He has scored some truly memorable goals, but nothing quite beats the one he put in against Assumption, scoring the equalizer after we were hopelessly 3-1 down. He has inspired us to some of our greatest wins this season and his goal-tally speaks for itself that he is a treasured player at Cairnhill. His craftiness and his speed, as well as his million-and-one stepovers have made Gerv one of our best players this season, and he can only get better from here. We appreciate all the hard work you’ve put in for EVERY SINGLE PERSON in the team and giving your all for the team. Cheers, Gervais!

And Last but CERTAINLY NOT the least,

Jason (Manager) – The man responsible for bringing this team together. Our gaffer has stood by the team through til the end. Even though this is his first experience at being a manager, he has truly excelled with every game and even had some playing time on the field when we had some players short. He had to handle a lot of problems as a manager but he always pulled through and is always someone we can all turn to and confide in. He has masterminded some real tactical breakthroughs that have spelt great success for Cairnhill and he never fails to put his full trust and belief in his players. I’m sure we’ve truly played our hearts out in support of him and he has really taken the team further than any expectations set for us. We truly thank you for all your support and guidance Jason, we can’t wait to start up all over again when the new season arrives.

Guys, its truly been an honour playing alongside each and everyone of you. With each new game, we’ve become more and more united, as a team and as a family. Its truly inspirational to me,seeing everyone play with their heart and soul for the team, and for their team-mates. I’m really honoured to be part of the team and to be given the opportunity to lead you guys on the field. I can’t wait for next season when we can all get back together and put up a real fight for the top spot. Before this post ends of, it is a necessity to include none other than our very own Captain, KIRAN!
Being the writer of this post, Kiran humbly excluded himself from the list of players and their contributions. This basically reflects our Skipper's attitude as he never fails to place others before himself, and always humbly play down his own contributions.

Kiran(CB) - started the season as a left winger, displaying skillful dribbles, flicks and silky deft touches. As the season subsequently progressed, he found himself having to forsake his favorite left-mid position, to play in a relatively unfamiliar position to him as a centre back. Knowing it was for the good of the team, he not only willingly played there, but also excelled brilliantly. Displaying huge dominance and presence with his physique, he started to cast more influence over the team with numerous no-nonsense tackling, interceptions and clearances. Kiran is truly one of the main reasons why we were able to revive our team’s performance midway through the season. You have been an example, great friend and leader to us Kiran, more to come from you in the following seasons, CAPTAIN!

Race for the 1st and 4th spot

Anxious KNV6 fans as title dreams now lies in the hands of Cairnhill FC.

With the season almost done and dusted, fans all around are gearing up for the finale of the season. The dismay walkover between Team Prodigy and Black Scorpions FC has all but ended the hopes of a thrilling fight for the 3rd place. Cairnhill FC would undoubtedly curse their hard luck as since their last defeat in May, they have raised their game and have come out all guns blazing. Unbeaten for 4 games in a row, and winning 3 out of them, the boys in blue were transforming into serious contenders for the play-off position. Few would have expected the phoenixes to be in such a position mid-way through the season, having to endure a long winless streak.

With the remaining 2 games of the season to consolidate the final position of the league standings, it will be a moment of truth as to whether KNV6 or Legends FC will be crowned the champions of Division 9. Mind games have since been exercised thick and fast, with some papers suggesting that the Phoenixes would not be at full throttle for their upcoming game, since their hopes of a 3rd place has been destroyed.

Manager Jason Lee has responded and has labeled that claim as “ridiculous”. The 24 year old manager continued: “It is a complete insult to the club’s principles and to the professionalism of the team and its’ players. We have always set out to win and nothing will be different come this Sunday’s clash.”

The final game would still be important to the Phoenixes as Assumption United plans to wrestle over the 4th spot. When asked about the significance of the coming game, Lee solemnly added: “Well, we are in pole position to claim the 4th spot and nobody should doubt that we will be aiming for all 3 points.”

Indeed this will be music to KNV6 ears, as they would need a huge favor from Cairnhill FC once again if they are to win the title. 2 weeks ago, CFC did them a massive favor by holding LUFC to a draw, but KNV6 failed to capitalize on that golden opportunity. This time around, KNV6 would be hoping for a similar result as a draw or a win for Cairnhill FC would all but end the dreams of Legends FC being the champions. You can be sure which color will KNV6 be donning, as Cairnhill FC takes on Legends FC in the majestic Serangoon stadium this Sunday, in what would be a decider for the championship!

This is our Match Report for the Game against FireBall FC.

1st Half:
The Phoenixes arrived at the Bedok Green Field with the biggest turnout we ever had; our full squad of 17 players. However, we took to the field against a seriously under-strength Fireball FC who only had 9 players in attendance. Nevertheless, the game got underway and CFC immediately got into the groove of our passing football. In fact, our first goal, 15mins after kickoff, came about due to our passing as the ball was played all the way from the Left back position, across the defence line, up through the right flank and then squared to our striker Salem who fired a visious shot at the keeper. The custodian did well to keep the shot out, but he could only push the ball to a lurking Gervais, who blasted the rebound into the back of the net.

You would think that this goal would have started a landslide of goals against a 2-man short team, but this could not be further from the truth. We found ourselves under pressure immediately after the restart and the resilience of their attacker paid off. During another of our passing bouts, our centre mid accidentally slipped and lost the ball to their nippy striker, who beat the last man and slotted the ball home to Level the scores.

But we pressed on again, undeterred. We slowed down the pace again and began creating more chances, one which lead to a corner. Ayuub sent in a near-post cross and Ming was on hand to dart infront of the keeper and hook the ball into the goal.
Score:2-1
The game so far was proving to be a relatively tight affair and you’d be forgiven to think that fireball was playing with a full strength team.We went into half time moments later, relieved to get out of the merciless mid-day heat and into some shade,to rethink our formation and playing style.

2nd Half:
The second half started in a much similar fashion to the first. Fireball was still not giving anything away and even made a few advances on goal which our back four did well to keep out.Our defence was further strengthened by the return of Hair and Taufiq, after a long absence from the team. Knowing we had to make use of our numerical advantage, we began to use the flanks and draw the opponents wider, stretch them out of their compact formation.And then, one of the goals of the season. Substitute Azmi collected the ball on the left flank and strode forward confidently before unleashing a piledriver of a shot from outside the box, which flew over the keeper and into the top corner.

We were looking for more goals to boost our goal difference.We even switched up the attacking line a few times, with Gervais, Salem, Clarence, Perry in rotation. We pushed on in search of a fourth and were rewarded not long after when our dominating Attacking Mid Ayuub brought the ball past a few defenders and placed it past the keeper into the bottom corner.
Score:4-1
Moments later, CFC won yet another corner from our continued pressure on the Fireball goal and this time, our other Centre-Back Dennis managed to get his name on the scorers list. From a low cross, he managed to bend down low enough to contact the underside of the ball and send it sailing across and over the keeper and into the back of the net. An Interesting goal and yet well taken goal, Dennis!
Score:5-1
Fireball was slowly wearing down, but they never really gave up. After the goal, immediately from the restart, their big CM punted the ball from the middle mark and Zack could not keep it out, granting the opponents their second goal.
Score:5-2
As the game began drawing to a close, again Ayuub stepped up to the plate, taking a brilliant through ball from Taufiq and sneakily chipping it over the diving keeper. Brilliant execution!
Score:6-2
The match ended not long after that, with CFC registering another convincing victory.

Fireball, playing with 9 men is a very difficult thing in itself, but you guys really fought til the very end. It was an inspirational performance that we saw from you guys today, the never-say-die attitude, and your amazing workrate. I’m sure if you had all eleven today, the score-line and the match would have been very different. But, Kudos to you for an exemplary performance!

Special mention must go to one of our new boy, Jage, who had an amazing game today on the right flank. His tireless running and mazy dribbles really tormented our opponents today. He fully deserves the Man-of-the-Match award today for his brilliant performance and its good to see him slowly but surely merging well into the team. Ayuub came in a close second for his leading role in the attacking half of the team, and also for his 2 goals. We hope to see more performances like this from you guys! Keep it Up!!
And to the rest of the team, Let’s get our focus quickly back to our Legends game next week. It’s the last game of our campaign and it’s crucial that we get all the points we can. If we keep playing like how we’ve been playing the last few weeks, and if we have a similar turnout like today, I’m sure we can really take the fight to Legends and prove we are no pushovers. Everybody had a good game as team today, but its going to be VERY DIFFERENT next week. We need to be ready. But with this current batch of players, I’m sure we can overcome. Let’s go for it boys! Fight to the Finish!

1st Half:
First of all,CFC deserves all the praise for a
tremendous game against Legends United
FC.Thanks to our recent wins which gave us
a boost in confidence and not forgetting
CFC’s great teamwork in recent games, we
were set for a great game against
Legends.Sadly though we did not have the
good start we wished for.It was rather
unfortunate that we were extremely dazed
and lost in our positions from the rushed
start.Still unsettled by the tenth minute we
conceded an unforced corner which then
lead to a header goal which eluded our
normally outspoken keeper.
Score:0-1
However being the team brimming on
confidence, CFC muscled their way back
into the game to play the usual possession
style and slower the pace. Despite our many
strikes taken we failed to convert it into
goals. No matter the result,CFC’s effort truly
paid off as we ended the first half in a
dominating fashion.

2nd Half:
Desperate for the chance to win the
game,we managed to channel our team’s
spirit and efforts to keep up our momentum
from the first half. Focused so much on
getting the vital goal,we however did not
mislay on our defence who were putting
their lives on the line to prevent another
goal from ruining our morale and a hope for
the equalizer. The countless waves of attack
from LUFC was enough to bring our whole
midfield back to our half of the pitch to form
a second line of defence. Not forgetting our
team members who also sacrificed their
bodies to block the incredible shots from
LUFC which were putting a whole lot of
pressure on us. Tempers soon flared as CFC
was growing in agitation from being unable
to penetrate and find the solutions to our
attacking options. Perilous tackles were
soon being a major aspect of the game
which was
changing the effects of our formation and
making us lose our concentrations. We were
in dire need of that goal to save us. JUST
WHEN WE NEEDED, our dominion skipper
and "CB" KIRAN dragged himself to the
opponent’s penalty
box to half-volley in an astounding goal
from Darryl’s splendid corner.Not only did
our illustrious man of the match grab us the
crucial goal but he had many significant
interceptions and flawless headers too which
spared us LUFC attacks on goal. Fabulous
show of character kiran!

Now that’s exactly the fighting attitude that
CFC has portrayed time and time
again.What a way to sum up the team’s
effort which is escalating towards a very
much complete and confident team.

To Legends, we thank you for the enthralling
game that saw non-stop action and real end-
to-end stuff. For young’uns you guys sure
know how to play, and we were really put
through a few scares, especially the counter-
attacks and the shots that hit the post. Til
we meet again in a fortnight!

Cairnhill, we really seem to be improving
tremendously with each new game.
Everyone’s truly starting to play FOR EACH
OTHER and this is a vital requirement for a
team. Everyone is covering each other well
and we rarely need to communicate out
loud, everyone just knows what to do. Also,
it appeared that every single man in blue
was throwing his body on the line for the
team.It was a stunning performance and
show of real grit and determination that kept
us in the game and managed to force a
draw from one of the better teams in the
division. Well done everyone, we all gave
our heart and soul for the match.let’s keep
up this pace and see out the season in style!

1st Half:
Cairnhill put up a stellar performance today
in the return leg against the Black
Scorpions. We started off with much of the
defence in makeshift formation as some of
our players had some delays in getting to
the field, but this didn’t deter us from putting
up one of the most dominating games we’ve
ever played this whole season. Clarence put
up an admirable performance as make shift
right back, while covering for shaik and
even gaffer Jason had a few minutes on the
pitch as the left back. But slowly we were
restored to a more familiar formation as the
late-comers settled into the side and we
took proceedings into our own hands. We
continued playing how we did last week and
worked our players through the middle,
which was expertly marshalled by Ayuub
and a returning Syahrul. The new
partnership of our targetman Salem and the
speedy and lethal Gervais was causing great
problems to the BSFC defence and the
wings were having the time and space to
wreck havoc. The whole team seemed to be
working as one and passing the ball very
well, patiently trying to break apart the
opponent’s defence. But it was proving to be
a very tight game as an excellent
performance by the BSFC defence-line kept
us out for the entire first half. No matter
how hard we tried, we simply could not
penetrate the Scorpions rearguards and
their custodian. The first half ended goal-
less,with both teams matching each other
move for move and both defences holding
strong.
2nd Half:
Our second half didn’t start off as smoothly
as the first half as we found ourselves under
a surprising amount of pressure from the
scorpions.But after many scares and slight
fumbles, the cairnhill defence stood strong
and provided the confidence the rest of the
team needed to settle down and take the
game back into control. We created many
more chances but simply couldn’t put any of
them away. And then, the turning point of
the match, our left winger Ming collided with
one of the Black Scorpion players and he
had to be helped off, badly injured.However,
the scorpions didn’t have enough players so
they were forced to play with one man
down. Seizing this to our advantage, CFC
immediately took to the offensive and finally
managed to get the opener. A superb mazy
run by Gervais saw him through on goal,
and as he shrugged off his defender, he
unselfishly laid the ball off for the unmarked
Salem, who calmly and collectedly slotted
the ball easily past their keeper. It was a
magnificent finish after our veteran kept his
nerves and placed the ball past the flailing
keeper who could do nothing to stop it.

Not long after that we found ourselves with
a 2 goal lead and the move all started with
our centre mid ayuub who was having a
great game. He brought the ball past a
number of BSFC defenders and took a shot
which the keeper did brilliantly to save.But
he could only parry it back to Perry (no pun
intended) who made no mistake in turning
the rebound into the goal.

It was effectively game-over for the
Scorpions who unfortunately had to see out
the rest of the game with only 10 men
available. We managed to see out the game
with a clean sheet, our defence was working
fantastically together to keep any remaining
scorpion advances at bay. The final whistle
blew and we kept our winning streak on for
another week.

Great game, Scorpions. It was truly hard
hard luck that u guys had to go one player
down and not enough turn-out to
compensate for the loss. Im sure it would
have been a very different game if you had
ur full squad together. Other than that, you
really gave us a tight fight and it was a
really close game! Great sportsmanship!
Best of luck for the rest of ur games.
Cairnhill, what can I say. We have finally
begun to click and our team is really gelling
well and playing the game in our own style.
The passing and movement has greatly
improved, and every single player in blue
did their part to get this win. But the man of
the match award goes to Salem who played
out the entire game with such dominance
and strength, holding up the ball well and
even scoring the opener in the calmest
fashion! Good job Salem, you’re truly a
great addition to the team.Lets keep up this
form guys, let’s put the whole ‘surpassing
the midfield and pumping the ball to the
strikers’ style behind us and adapt to our
new and more effective game-play. Next
week we take on Legends, but im sure we
can really put up a great fight if we just be
consistent and keep up the same
performance we’ve put up the last 2 games.

1st Half:
Cairnhill came back with roaring form as we faced Black Scorpions. We had 2 new signings, the midfield maestro Shah and the tireless No.69, Jage (not you Manfred).We also saw the return of another of our players as Faiz came down for the game at Jurong West Sec. From kickoff, CFC moved immediately into action and took full control of the game, applying pressure high up the field and dictating the pace. We forced BSFC to play to our game as the 2 central mids worked wonders, pulling the strings and holding the ball really well. The defence was looking rock solid and we all managed to settle in really well knowing we were fully supported anywhere on the field. It was only a matter of time before we managed to get the opener.Under sustained pressure, BSFC conceded a corner in the 15th minute of play. From the cross into the box, there was a mass scramble as the defence failed to clear the ball and it fell to Ming. In a show of great team-spirit, he opted to lay the ball off for Gervais to finish off instead of going for glory himself. The ball did take a deflection as it went in but it clearly crossed the line and we found ourselves a goal up, something we had not achieved in a long time!

Knowing how slender the lead was, we continued our style of play right away after the restart. We had a few scares of our own as the Scorpions made attempt after attempt to penetrate our back-line, but our temporary custodian Darryl was up for the challenge. In fact, he was more than up for it, as he did what most keepers couldn’t dream of doing…Providing an assist for our striker. After collecting the ball from a cross, he sent a thumper of a ball all the way upfield and the bounce eluded their last man. Ming was on hand to capitalize on his mistake as he sped past the flailing defender to put the ball into the back of the net. Brilliant assist and brilliant finish!

We went into the break full of confidence as we had a 2 goal cushion, and yet increasingly wary of a potential Scorpion Comeback.

2nd Half:
We knew what we had to do, keep possession and frustrate the opponents. The task was easy enough. Just keep playing our game and don’t succumb to defensive lapses. However, it was just in our style to do exactly that as we collapsed to a terrible start to the 2nd half. For a good 20 mins after Half time, we found ourselves on the backfoot, and having to weather wave after wave of the opponents attacks. Kudos to BSFC for never really conceding the match.But we should also sort out why we chose to bypass our central midfield and resort to pumping the ball up for the strikers to chase.We began to throw away our lead and fast! A lapse in concentration in defence caused our tight offside trap to be sprung and their striker was clear on goal after a good through pass, and he made no mistake in planting it in the bottom right corner.

Disaster struck as ironically,the one who was yelling at the team to keep their concentration was the one to lose his. Our captain and centreback Kiran “evaded his marker with ease and expertly planted a firm backward glancing header into HIS OWN GOAL, leaving the keeper with no chance!”haha.It was,as described by BSFC, a truly “beautiful goal”.

Fearing that this might turn out to be yet another game in which we surrendered our loss and had to settle for a measly point, CFC showed great character in not giving into the pressure and surging on in search of the tie-breaker. Indeed this came in the form of our new recruit shah, and what a breath-taking goal it was! Taking the ball from a throw in on the left from our own side, he weaved his way through hordes of Scorpion defenders, before exchanging a quick one-two with Ming and slotting the ball into the net with apparent ease. It was a wonderfully worked counterattack that left the opponents (and some of our own players) stunned! And it proved decisive as it saved us our blushes and put us back into the lead. Now all we had to do was see out the rest of the game, and that we did.The final whistle blew shortly after and we had finally claimed all 3 points after a staggering 7 games.

BSFC, you guys are a very sporting team, in every sense of the word.You never gave up the fight even to the last minute, and other than a few nudges and bumps, we didn’t have much problems. The game was a friendly contest and we all had fun playing with you. Good sportsmanship. Let’s see if the next week is the same! Til Sunday..

It was an ALL-AROUND wonderful performance by Cairnhill.Everyone did their part in securing the victory and we all helped each other out, restoring confidence to those who made mistakes and keeping alive the fighting spirit to get back our lead. Our two new boys showed extremely encouraging quality too! Jage was a constant menace to the opponents down the flanks, running tirelessly to chase every ball and opponent alike. Shah also put up a Man-of-the-Match Performance by orchestrating much of our attacks and almost single-handedly pulling us back into the lead.We have finally tasted victory after a long win-less streak and how sweet it is. C’mon guys, let’s keep up this form and see the rest of our season through in this manner. But first, on to our Replay with the Scorpions… En’ Garde!!

Guys, although I was not there to watch you guys played, the feedback I got is you guys did a great job. Due to some reason, some of the time during the game, we are playing with only 10 men, but the attitude and effort you guys put in is something that really pleases me.

I am glad to see you guys are clicking well both on and off the pitch. Although result is important, its the team bonding and attitude from you guys that I really want to see. Its disappointing not to win the game, but soccer is like this. Do not let the result bothered you.

With one month without playing soccer together, the performance you guys put up is just excellence. The understanding between players are good, although there are still room for improvement. As I did not watch the game, I cannot really come up with much comment.

I hope the next game I can have my full squad there as it is really hard to play the full game with only 11 players.

Last of all, I would like to thank Syahrul for doing a great job managing the team while I am not around and on behalf of Cairnhill FC, wish Darryl Happy Birthday!

Guys, after a one week break and a disappointing friendly game last week, our season is going to continue this coming sunday. We should put the defeat behind us and try to go for the 3rd win of the season, to maintain our 100% start to the season.

Sunday Friendly Match

Our friendly game at Ang Mo Kio secondary sch didn't go as smoothly as we planned. We played with many players out of position and some of us feeling a bit rusty after the one week break. At the final whistle, we lost 6-4 which was very disappointing. The majority of the goals we conceded were sloppy and unforced errors on our part. There was no Individual fault, we win as a team and lose as a team.

However, the 4 goals that we scored were of the Highest Quality! Looks like Ming has found his scoring boots as he banged in a brilliant hat-trick. Well done, son! Also on the score-sheet was our centre-mid Ayyub with a marvelous floating headed goal over the keeper.

Let's take heart from this performance guys! Even though we had conceded so many, we never gave up hope and kept on assaulting the opponent's goal. We never stopped trying to pull back and it was a fantastic team effort to close the huge gap. We played well as a team and it is evident that we are really beginning to gel more. It is great to see players consoling and encouraging each other when we made mistakes or when we conceded goals. This kind of teamwork is absolutely vital in our quest for the ESPZen crown.

So now, let us put this result aside. The game is over, we cannot change the score, but we CAN take the good points from this game and apply them to the rest of our season. Let's keep up the Never-Say-Die attitude and the brilliant Team-Work. Also let's use this match as a lesson, learn from our mistakes and improve for the upcoming match against KNV6 this Sunday! In the words of Gervais, we have to look at these 6 goals conceded as ALL the goals we're gonna concede for this season. As a team, we can come back from this defeat to be stronger! We are Cairnhill!!

Tough Challenge

Guys, the fighting spirit shown during the last game was impressive and touching. Everyone was giving their all, going for every ball, every challenge and every tackle. Going from 1-0 down to winning the game 2-1, was the never give up attitude shown from you guys.

Since the building of the team, i believe the team bonding is the key element to the team success. From the beginning when the team just form till the previous game, i can see and feel the bonding between one another have became closer, became stronger. From last time when someone score a goal and only a couple of guys celebrating to almost everyone celebrating the goal together is a example of it. Hope the bonding between the players will continue to grow even more closer and stronger.

As for the performance from you guys, i dun think i have much complain. You guys are just unbelieveable. But there are a few person i would like to point out for their great performance. Firstly, Shaik. I believe most of you will agree he have improve alot. His touch and run have really added more fire power to our attack. Keep up the good work Shaik! The second and third person is Shaiful and Dennis. The Partnership of Shaiful and Dennis is flawless. They just made the defence wall soild and almost unbreakable. Next, Hair. He played in all the area of the team. From Defence to Attack, from Attack to Midfield, he just played in every area of the team. Although he gave away a goal, but he got the winning goal for us too. Lastly is our Keeper, Karthik. He have shown us a performance that won him the Man of The Match. He is one of the reason that we manage to win the game too.

Finally, you guys should have realise we have only played two games. Although we are currently at the top, the season is still far from finish. The challenge will only get tougher and tougher. Let us get ready for all the challenge that is ahead of us and we shall get past them one by one as a team!!!

Guys, finally we played our first game of the season today. It was a tough game, but you guys put up a good show and performance. We had created quite a few chances, but we didn't really make it count. Hopefully we can learn this lesson today and make every chances count in the future.

Today i am very impress by the performance of you guys. In defence, Dennis and Shaiful have make the defence line hard to break down. They are calm and compose when dealing with the ball coming to them. In midfield, Mike and Syahrul have won the midfield battle for us, not to forget Hair who played in both midfield and defence through the game. Parry have made his presence felt from the minute he step on to the pitch till he came off. Gervais and Ming's speed have also cause a lot of trouble to their defence. Congrate to Gervais and Ming for their goals today.

Hopefully Jimmy's injury is not that serious as his run have added a lot of pressure to their defence. As for Azmi, please don't take today's incident to heart, we guys are behind you. Finally to the team Captain Kiran, you played very well today. I would expect the same from you for every game.

Finally, I would like to thank Kiran for his match report and uploading of the photo. Impressive!!!

4)Shin Guard (This is a must. No Shin Guard are not allow to play)

First Game of The New Season

Guys, alot of good things have been going on this two weeks. Firstly, we have finally register in the ESPZEN season 8. Secondly, the players are getting used to one another, starting to gel as a team. Thirdly, we have even set up our team blog... CAIRNHILL FC's BLOG!!!

I would like to take this chance to thank all the players for their support and commitment to Cairnhill FC. Everyone is important to the team. No one will be left behind as we will all improve together, move forward together and win together. I hope the bonding will be getting stronger and closer as time goes by.

This week's game is very important to us. We have to go out and try to get all 3 points to have a good start to the season. For the teamtalk, I shall leave till sunday den say la.

Finally, i would like to thank Darryl for his effort to set up this blog and get the chat board up and running.
